Abstract. The paper aims to prove precedence of models for transformation of the European literature images in artistic and historical narrative of the Argentinian and Mexican prose of the second half of the XIX century. The researchers’ attention is focused on images of gangsters and outlaws, which acquired an original interpretation determined by authorial intention and specificity of the story development. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that this problem has not been previously investigated in the domestic literary criticism. The research findings are as follows: the authors prove that ethical and psychological heterogeneity of the Latin American personages is conditioned by national and historical factors.
Key words and phrases: аргентинский роман, мексиканский роман, этико-психологическая специфика, реалии латиноамериканской действительности, национальный менталитет, Argentinian novel, Mexican novel, ethical and psychological specificity, Latin American realia, national mentality
