Motive as Vector of Interpreting Motivation in Language

Abstract. This article is devoted to studying motive as one of conceptual components of motivation and describing the means that represent this phenomenon in the language. The purpose of the study is to show that motive is one of directions in interpretation of motivation in the language as an individual’s linguistic cognitive activity. Scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that variability of understanding and objectification of motivation is for the first time considered through the lens of motive as a part of conceptual structure of motivation, taking into account the cognitive approach in linguistics and basing the research on the material of differently structured languages. As a result, the researchers summarise general knowledge behind the concepts МОТИВ/MOTIVE, give examples of the primary and secon¬dary ways of their transfer in Russian and English and show that these data expand understanding of motivation and possibilities of its interpretation at the conceptual and linguistic levels.
