Truth and Inspiration: On the Nature of Literary Creativity (by the Example of J. Barnes’s Novel "Flaubert’s Parrot")

Abstract. The article considers philosophical and psychological aspects of creativity, examines the problem of reconstructing a writer’s true biography by the example of the post-modernistic Booker-shortlisted novel of the modern English writer Julian Barnes "Flaubert’s Parrot" (1984). Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher shows how the author’s metaphors of creativity and changeable truth correlate with post-modernistic poetics, which surprisingly helps to achieve truthiness effect within the psychological novel genre. As a result, it is proved that understanding the writer’s creativity requires abandoning Absolute Truth and revealing influence of Fortune on human life, in particular, on the life of the French literary classic depicted in the novel.
Key words and phrases: Джулиан Барнс, постмодернизм, творческая интуиция, отказ от истины, поэтика случайного, Julian Barnes, postmodernism, creative intuition, abandoning truth, poetics of Fortune
