Abstract. The purpose of the study is to determine which components make up semantics of a meme as a polymodal unit of communication in digital space, what mechanism of perception and interpretation of memes by a recipient is. The study is novel in that it is the first to examine a meme from the standpoint of cognitive linguistics at different levels of perception with varying degrees of abstraction. As a result, it is proved that representation of a situation that determines semantics of a meme in the considered group is structured and consists of three levels, each of which is marked by specificity of a recipient’s perception of the message.
