"Ginger" by I. Talkov: Cognitive Mechanisms to Overcome Negative Self-Identification

Abstract. The paper aims to describe the initial self-identification model of I. Talkov’s cognitive-pragmatic program. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that I. Talkov’s creative work is for the first time analysed through the lens of the modern cognitive theory. The research findings are as follows: by the example of the song "Ginger", the authors reveal the cognitive mechanisms to overcome negative self-identification. Having recognized inadequacy of programmed stereotyped perception, the lyrical hero reinterpreted the cognitive block content. Applying programmed actions, he shifts emphasis from "the Other" (bearer of the imposed stereotype) to His Own Self realized through creativity and sport. It becomes a basis of a renewed self-identification strategy.
