J. W. von Goethe’s and N. A. Zabolotsky’s Notions of Nature and Culture in the Context of the Neoplatonic System of Ideas

Abstract. The aim of the study is to clarify the specifics of J. W. von Goethe’s and N. A. Zabolotsky’s understanding of the issue of the nature-culture relationship. The paper examines the peculiarities of the understanding of nature and culture by Goethe and Zabolotsky, the poets who are united by the similarity of their views to the Neoplatonic system of ideas. Scientific novelty of the study lies in considering the possibilities of ancient and new European Neoplatonism for creating a concept of culture, as well as in comparing Goethe’s and Zabolotsky’s views on the issue of nature and culture. As a result, it has been proved that the Neoplatonic elements in Goethe’s and Zabolotsky’s worldview allowed each of them to form their own ideas about the relationship between nature and culture.
