Limerick as Genre of English Nonsense Verse in Aspect of Translation

Submitted: 20.12.2021
Abstract. The paper aims to develop the translation strategies of limerick as a genre of the English nonsense verse. The article approaches limerick as a genre of nonsense verse, analyzes its translations into the Russian language, identifies translation strategies and provides the author’s own examples of translation to prove universality of these strategies. The scientific originality of the research lies in the complex analysis of limerick in terms of language and structural peculiarities and formulation of the main principles of its translation. As a result, it has been proved that the translator should pay attention to the form of limerick in the first place, while the semantics is important as far as it allows establishing a direct correspondence between the original and translated texts, which gives us the right to call this process a translation.
