Abstract. This article is devoted to the history of origin and activity of Old Believers' centers of Upper Povoljie. The reasons of their activity and elimination as the result of Strelets criminal investigations in the 1651-1655-s are considered. Their influence on the formation of Old Believers' communities - "kapitons" in the district are examined.
