Abstract. The article reveals the content of the notion theurgy. Theurgy is considered as the most important category of young symbolism aesthetics connected with some key ideas and notions: symbol as it is, idea of life creation, conception of all-unity and arts synthesis, Sophia / World soul, considering a poet as a prophet. Theurgy in symbolists' understanding suggests the connection of ancient mystery theurgy with Vl. Solov'ev's free theurgy and also with the elements of Christian and occult mystical practice. As well as Vl. Solov'ev, younger symbolists rather talk about a theurgy variant - sophiurgy.
