Abstract. The author considers the questions concerning the correlation between nature-conformable and culture-oriented paradigmatic orientations in education and the search for the foundations of their theoretical synthesis in the context of modern philosophy and theory of culture; and pays special attention to the analysis of the correlation between primary and higher human needs and abilities, the genesis of their development, expressing the specificity of the social-cultural forms of behaviour and activity dominant in the society.
