GNOSTICISM INFLUENCE ON PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT FORMATION IN BYZANTIUM

Abstract. The author considers the role of gnostic doctrines in the processes of Byzantine philosophy formation and development, shows that the phenomenon of Gnosticism was simultaneously the result and source of complex and contradictory interaction between Hellenistic, Jewish, and Christian traditions, and pays special attention to the consideration of the influence of Gnosticism, as the major factor of spiritual and social-cultural life of the first centuries of our era, on the development of early Christian philosophical systems of Clement of Alexandria and Origen.
