PALACE OF CULTURE - MAIN UNREALIZED PROJECT OF GRAND KAZAN' GENERAL PLAN (THE 1930S)

Abstract. The authors discuss one of the most important soviet authorities' cultural projects in Kazan' - the Palace of Culture construction as the semantic centre of the city within the general plan of Grand Kazan', and consider the projects, competitions and public discussion of the Palace of Culture construction in the context of the city re-planning and trials to create architectural national distinctness of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
