Abstract. The author studies the sources of landscape culture formation, in particular - the instructions (guidance) on park construction of the end of the XVIIIth - the first third of the XIXth century, and considers how reference books revealed the problems of aesthetic taste, the spatial organization of parks oriented at contemporary cultural tendencies, the aesthetics of Romanticism, and how landscape culture and aesthetics formed during that period.
