YEARNING AS NATIONAL CONCEPT OF RUSSIAN CULTURE

Abstract. The author considers one of the most meaningful concepts in the Russian culture: the concept of yearning, pays particular attention to the etymology of this concept and to its interpretation in existential philosophy, presents the basic characteristics of yearning in terms of existentialism: its uncertainty, groundlessness, its connection with time and nothingness, distinguishes between yearning and boredom, and shows potential spiritual danger, which is rooted in this concept and understood asthe sin of despondency in the Orthodox doctrine.
