"THESE ARE PEOPLE LIKE US...": GERMANS AND LOCAL POPULATION IN YENISEI PROVINCE DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR – MUTUAL PERCEPTION

Pavlova Irina Petrovna, Ivleva Tat'yana Vladimirovna
Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University

Abstract. The article studies the mutual perception of the local population of Yenisei province and the German prisoners allocated within its territory during the First World War. This process is considered basing on the diary notes of civilian prisoners, the recollections of prisoners of war and newspaper articles of the war period. The authors come to the conclusion that the Germans in the rear of Siberia were not perceived as the enemy, but the prisoners established contacts with the local population because of necessity and considered the natives as the representatives of the less civilized people.
