Abstract. The author discusses one of the major problems of bel canto existence nowadays the high-pitched tuning fork, considers the key stages of the tuning fork rising from the beginning of the XVIIIth century till the present day, analyzes the views of the following researchers: N. A. Garbuzov, M. Praetorius, O. Khvol'son, A. P. Ivanov, E. E. Nesterenko, I. K. Nazarenko, N. I. Vasil'ev; expresses her own opinion about the impact of the high-pitched tuning system on the singers vocal apparatus, reveals and substantiates the necessity to return the original tuning fork height, which corresponds to the genuine nature of singing voice, and tells that this problem is very poorly studied and requires further research.
