Abstract. The author describes the main provisions of system research methodology, reveals the key characteristics of the notion "system", shows that this notion should be applied not only to the nature of the phenomena under consideration (the ontological aspect of system approach), but, what is more important, to the process of scientific research (gnoseological aspect); and from the point of view of each of these aspects reveals the features of system approach and system research.
