Abstract. The author considers Joseph Haydns clavier variations that form the origins of piano performance and are an important stage in the genre development, tells that these works as a genre have not been specifically considered, and the parallel "Haydn Beethoven" is insufficiently revealed in the history of variations genre, mentions that meanwhile Haydns clavier variations had a strong influence on Beethovens works, and to some extent were the prototypes of his specific variation cycles, presents the classification of Haydns clavier variations, and reveals the connection between the dramatic principles of two Viennese classics variations.
