SYMBOLISM IN K. SOMOV’S LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Abstract. The author considers a number of works of landscape painting by K. Somov, in which the artist shows the symbolist vision of the surrounding world, pays attention to musicality as one of the artist’s creative method components, touches upon the subject of the interrelation between painting and music through figurative world perception, through the community of the artistic means of expression (rhythm, tone, time, intonation, etc.), and comes to the conclusion that for K. A. Somov symbolism became a way to reproduce the music of nature in landscape painting.
