PHILIPPE DE VITRY’S MOTETS: PROBLEMS OF AUTHORSHIP

Abstract. The author discusses the little-studied in native musicology aspect of the musical- poetic creative works of Philippe de Vitry – one of the French ars nova founders of the XIV th century – the attribution of his motets, presents the direct evidence of Vitry’s authorship in a number of motets, and also existing indirect evidence, based on the facts of Vitry’s biography, thematic and stylistic closeness to the already attributed works of the composer, and gives her own interlinear translations of eight patterns of Vitry’s motet poetry.
