"AVE, UNOBSERVABLE DEPTH...": FORMATION OF HYMNOGRAPHIC AND MOTET FORMS OF GOD’S MOTHER VENERATION (THE I ST-IV TH CENTURIES)

Abstract. The author researches an important but poorly studied question of the "preparatory" period in the development of Marian motet forms and hymnology, emphasizes the fundamental significance of this historical stage as the "accumulation period" that provides the complex of constant features for the artistic interpretations of God’s Mother’s image in broad historical perspective, and mentions the importance of such factors as the intensive understanding of Maria’s image in literary forms, the urgency of resistance to heresies, the expansion of the Christian holidays in the course of the evolution of God’s Mother hymnography.
