LUCIUS FLAVIUS’S BILL ON LAND ALLOTMENT TO POMPEY’S ARMY VETERANS AND THE FIRST TRIUMVIRATE CREATION

Matyushkina Ol'ga Gennad'evna

Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of land allotment to Pompey’s army soldiers and the failure of Lucius Flavius’s agrarian bill, initiated by the commander and related to land allotment to his army veterans. The author comes to the conclusion that it is exactly the implacable policy of the senate and the failure of this bill forced Pompey to find new allies, to form coalition with Caesar and Crass, and at last, to form the triumvirate, which, according to historians, was the first step to the Civil War.
