TRANSFORMATION OF UKRAINIAN BLACK LETTER POLY-TYPE MOTIFS IN BOOK GRAPHICS OF ARTISTS OF THE ХХ TH CENTURY

Abstract. The article reveals the transformation of black letter poly-type motifs in the graphics of the Ukrainian artists of the beginning of the ХХ th century. During this period, the cultural circulation included the publications samples of the XVI th-XVIII th centuries, acquiring the stylization, which partly formed the national identity of the Ukrainian graphic canons of the ХХ th century, and their more stringent geometric shapes in a new way sounded in the context of modernist art. The special attention is paid to the features of the formation of the Ukrainian printed material decorative elements by the example of the works of Georgii (Egor) Ivanovich Narbut) (Ukr. Георгій (Юрій) Іванович Нарбут) (1886-1920) – the Russian and Ukrainian graphic artist and illustrator.
