Abstract. The article considers the essence of sense generation in communication. The author substantiates that transcendence, being of opened nature, is an essential characteristic of sense generation in communication: in order to produce new sense, it is necessary to go beyond deeply-rooted sense. Transcendence takes into account the existentiality of sense, allows overcoming the limits of human-congruent communication. Two forms of transcendence are identified: self-transcendence and external transcendence. Self-transcendence is a prerequisite for external transcendence.
