OPPOSITION TO CAUCASIAN POLICY OF PETER THE FIRST FROM TURKEY AND WEST EUROPEAN STATES

Abstract. The article analyzes the anti-Russian plans and actions of Turkey and supporting West European powers in the period of preparing and implementing the campaign of the Russian troops headed by Peter the First to the western coast of the Caspian Sea in 1722. The authors show the strategic goals and tasks of the Turkish government in relation to Caspian regions, in particular, Dagestan, the methods of the anti-Russian campaign of western powers in Caucasus. The results of the conducted research testify that West European powers by all possible means tried to prevent Russia from strengthening its positions in Caspian region.
