Abstract. The main stages of public monuments conservation system organization in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra are stated and the activities implemented by the regional, okrug and district departments of the All-Russian Society of History and Culture Monuments Conservation in the sphere of cultural heritage protection in the region in the 1960-1990s are analyzed in the article. The majority of the archival sources, which were the basis for the author’s research, is for the first time introduced into scientific circulation.
