GERMAN POLITICAL CATHOLICISM FORMATION IN GERMANIC PRINCIPALITIES FROM 1789 TILL 1871: IDEOLOGICAL GUIDELINES EVOLUTION

Abstract. The historical conditions of origin and the political views genesis of the German Catholicism in Germanic principalities during the period from the French Revolution of 1789 till the united German state creation in 1871 are considered in the article. The author withdrew from the stereotypes of Catholicism negative perception formed in the time of the Soviet Union and revealed the progressiveness of the Catholics’ views aimed at the confessional minority’s rights protection. The constitutional character of the German Catholics’ struggle against totalitarian Prussianism, who laid the foundations of modern democratic Germany, which successor is the modern German Christian democracy, is emphasized in the work.
