Obidina Yuliya Sergeevna
Mari State University

Abstract. In the article the problem of the attitude of the progressive part of the Russian social idea to death and immortality issues at the beginning of the XX th century is considered. Special attention is paid to the worldview of the Russian cosmists and their role in the general attitudes formation of the epoch. The idea that the attempt to build a "new world" here and now led not only to tragic consequences for the spiritual life of Russia, but also gave a powerful impulse to develop modern immortology science is substantiated. The issue about the consequences of the utopian projects implementation of the beginning of the XX th century remains debatable for modern Russia.
