FEMALE CONVICTS AND SPECIAL SETTLERS IN THE FAR EAST OF RUSSIA (1860-1941)

Abstract. The article presents information about the participation of women in the "criminal" colonization of the Far East in the Russian Empire and the USSR. The author characterizes the living conditions of the female convicts under the conditions of servitude on the Sakhalin island. The paper presents data about the participation of women in special resettlements in the Far East region, which were implemented in the USSR. The researcher characterizes the living conditions and economic activity of the special settlers, their role in the settlement and development of the region.
