CONCEPT "SOVIET OCCUPATION" IN THE MODERN GEORGIAN NATIONALISM

Abstract. The article shows that nationalism is an important factor in the development of political imagination in Georgia. The Georgian nationally-oriented intellectuals reject the soviet period in the national history. The concept "occupation" plays the central role in the development of nationalist imagination and historical memory. February 25 is known in Georgia as "the day of occupation". Annual political events related to the memory of the soviet power victims and the incorporation of Georgia to the Soviet Union have become important components of political ritual. The concept "occupation" in present-day Georgia is a part of political nationalism. "Museum of Soviet Occupation" has become a project for the actualization of historical memory and political experience in its anti-soviet and nationalistic sense.
