Abstract. The article examines the role of family in the process of educating a humane personality. The paper presents the analysis of the views of the Russian classics and some modern scientists on the institution of family. The author concludes that many philosophers and scientists emphasize an important ethical role of family as a humane social institution not only in the life of a human being, but society, state, mankind on the whole.
