Abstract. In the article the authors examine the phenomenon of self-development from the position of the main branches of philosophy: ontology, gnoseology, axiology, dialectics and synergetics. In the context of the study the researchers give a brief philosophical and historical retrospective of the perception of self-development phenomenon. It is connected with the fact that different philosophical directions suggested various views on the problem of self-development including idealism and materialism, positivism, pragmatism, existentialism.
