Abstract. The article examines the basic problems of the history of chess movement in the Republic of Tatarstan (the second half of the XIX - the beginning of the XXI century). The authors evaluate the role of chess in the sports and social life of the region, the most significant events and personalities; present a survey of the major chess events - tournaments, matches, championships - within the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan. The paper emphasizes the positive influence of chess on the sports and health-improving competence of future specialists in the modern period.
