Abstract. In the article the author’s version of the interpretation of a series of the saints on the pillars of the Virgin Nativity Cathedral of the Ferapontov Monastery is given. The researcher correlates the location of the figures with their memory dates in the church calendar and reveals the interrelation of the images with each other, finds the general principle of the series formation in the cathedral space, and determines the direction of the series movement, which gives a possibility of the most correct interpretation of it. The term "spatial church calendar" is introduced and the logical sequence of the images placed on the pillars is proved for the first time.
