PROBLEMS OF REALIZATION OF M. PUZANOV’S PROJECT TO PUT THE RIVER SEYM INTO NAVIGABLE CONDITION IN THE 30S OF THE XIX CENTURY

Abstract. The article is devoted to arranging navigation on the river Seym, peculiarities and difficulties, which the authors of the most important engineering project of Kursk province in the first half of the XIX century came across. The paper examines the sources of financing the building activities, the attitude to the construction of the locks of the prominent representatives of the nobility. The author shows the ambiguous evaluation of the project by the local noblemen. Special attention is paid to M. Puzanov’s explanation concerning the possibility to set locks on the river Seym and further profitability of the whole project.
