THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE AS VIEWED BY SCOTTISH REVIEWERS OF "THE EDINBURGH REVIEW" IN 1802-1821

Abstract. The article deals with the images of the Ottoman Empire in the pages of the Scottish literary-critical periodical printed publication "The Edinburgh Review" in the period from 1802 to 1821. The author reveals the main reasons for interest from the reviewers of the publication in the Ottoman Empire and its inhabitants. Special attention is paid to spatial-climatic, potestary images and the perception stereotypes of foreigners concerning the Ottoman Empire and its provinces.
