DEVELOPING CIVIL NATION AND ACHIEVING POLITICAL UNITY

Abstract. The article examines the problem of developing civil nation in the Russian state, characterizes the content of the concepts "nation" and "ethnos", identifies the specifics of nation development in the historical experience of the USSR and other countries. The author characterizes the phenomenon of civil nation as a factor for achieving political unity, argues for the possibility to create the Russian nation grounded on the "co-citizenship" and political unity of the people. According to the author, the conception of civil patriotism serves as a political and cultural justification of national unity.
