Abstract. The article traces the genesis of the notion "participation", analyzes the meaningful in the context of social philosophy aspects of the topic, namely the correlation of the part and the whole; the human’s participation in social processes; collective responsibility; common destiny. The paper provides an analysis of different ways of interpreting the notion "participation" in the framework of social philosophy. The universal significance of comprehensive investigation and deepening the understanding of this philosophical concept is substantiated. Different philosophers’ views on this concept are presented.
