IMAGE OF LABYRINTH IN ICONOGRAPHY OF THE RUSSIAN ICON. ICONOGRAPHY THROUGH HERMENEUTICS

Abstract. The article is an attempt to trace the transformation of perception and reading of symbolism of the labyrinth image reflected in religious art (the Orthodox tradition) on the basis of the "image theory" developed by the Fathers in the period of iconoclasm. The author considers the iconography of a rare for Rus icon of the XVIII century "Spiritual Labyrinth" from the New Jerusalem Monastery near Moscow as an example.
