Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of dual nature of labour. Applying the historical approach the authors substantiate a statement that causes of dual nature of labor - labor as a burdensome necessity and labour as creativity - have foundations in social conditions of life. Before emergence of private property labor had the highest value. Dehumanization of labor is conditioned by relations of private property turning it into a heavy duty. Labour relations of the society and their reflection in ideology of the epoch are social causes of dual nature of labour.
