ESSENTIALISTIC AND TELEOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF INTERPRETING "FEMALE" IN ARISTOTLE’S PHILOSOPHY

Abstract. The article focuses on interpreting female in Aristotle’s philosophy. The author compares two aspects of studying this problem - essentialistic and teleological ones. In the first one female is interpreted as an antithesis of male by analogy with matter as an antithesis of form. The second aspect examines female as a male element, which hasn’t achieved its goal. The researcher concludes on the necessity to consider both aspects to develop a consistent and adequate view.
