CONTINUOUS ACTION IN DRAMATIC AND OPERA PERFORMANCE

Chepinoga Alla Valer'evna
Russian University of Theatre Arts (GITIS)

Abstract. The article aims to identify the terminological meaning of the concepts "action" and "continuous action" in the dramatic and opera theatre. The author points out that the absence of the clear definitions of these terms affects negatively both the analysis of dramaturgic material and the process of its implementation in the performance. The paper emphasizes that in the dramatic theatre these terms belong to different periods of staging and are directly associated with the issues of dramaturgic material interpretation. The researcher argues for the fundamental difference of these categories in the work of the dramaturgic stage director and the obligatory coincidence of these terms meanings for the opera stage director. The latter will be conditioned by the specifics of the opera stage director’s work involving the peculiarities of musical dramaturgy.
