Abstract. The article reveals the interaction of national consciousness and patriotism in the philosophy of history by P. Ya. Chaadaev through the categories of unity, identity, difference, true and false, instinctive and reflexive, rational and reasonable. The dialectics of national and patriotic is examined in his conception of the philosophy of history as an ascent to a single spiritual basis, which is known as Christian truth. The difference between national consciousness and the consciousness of the nation, true and illusory patriotism made by the philosopher is connected with the opposition of the empirical and rational comprehension of history.
