Kizilyaev Aleksandr Arnol'dovich

Abstract. The invention of the bassoon has been attributed for a long time to the Italian canon Aphranius degli Albonezi, who created a musical instrument called Phagotum in the first half of the XVI century. In the XX century scientists proved that the bassoon and the Phagotum are different instruments. However, the origin of the name Phagotum is still not entirely clear and causes various assumptions. This article considers the explanation of this name emergence proposed by the nephew of the inventor, Theseus Ambrogio degli Albonezi, who published the first description of the Phagotum .
