Abstract. In modern folk instrumental compositions authors more frequently use unusual forms to interpret folkloric themes. The article examines the specifics of working with folk song material in the composition by the modern domestic composer Aleksandr Tsygankov - Variations on Two Themes: "Oh, You, My Inner Porch" and "Why Have I Met You, My Sweetheart". In this composition the author synthesizes the traditional techniques of folk instrumentalism associated with variational development and the elements of jazz stylistics.
