THE PROBLEM OF THEORETICAL TERMS REFERENCE AND THE FORMAL PROGRAM OF LOGICAL POSITIVISM

Arkhiereev Nikolai L'vovich
Bauman Moscow State Technical University

Abstract. The dichotomy of the sentences of scientific theory to analytical and synthetic and the cumulative model of the development of scientific knowledge were the elements of the program of logical positivism. Both the assertion about the complete incompatibility of successive theories, and the assertion that it is impossible to distinguish between analytical and synthetic sentences, put forward in the course of criticizing this program, are, in the author’s opinion, the result of insufficiently accurate consideration of the intensional and extensional characteristics of the expressions of the theory.
Key words and phrases: стандартная трактовка теории, стандартная формализация теории, интенсионал, экстенсионал, объём понятия, содержание понятия, standard interpretation of theory, standard formalization of theory, intensional, extensional, scope of notion, content of notion
