PRESERVATION AND RESTORATION OF THANGKAS IN MUSEUMS OF EUROPE AND THE USA

Abstract. The article presents a retrospective and comparative analysis of the history of the system formation for studying, preserving and restoring thangkas in museums of Europe and the United States of America. The origin of famous thangka collections in museums of America, Italy, Great Britain, Sweden, Canada is considered. Modern methods and technologies of preservation, restoration and studying of thangkas are examined. In conclusion, it is noted that modern innovative research of scientists from Europe and America is valuable material for Russian and Chinese theoreticians and practitioners dealing with the problem of thangka collections preservation.
