ARCHITECTURAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE COSSACK FORTRESS BUZULUK IN THE MIDDLE VOLGA REGION

Abstract. The article examines the stages of architectural formation of a typical Cossack fortress of the Middle Volga region - Buzuluk. The author analyzes the key backgrounds for the Cossack fortress construction in the region, identifies factors influencing development of the fortress and further on town Buzuluk. Relying on the author’s field researches and the analysis of the settlement’s general layout the paper identifies typical features of planning and building Buzuluk and all the Cossack fortresses of the Middle Volga region of the second half of the XVIII - the beginning of the XX century.
