REGION: RETHINKING THE CONCEPT IN THE CONTEXT OF A NEW SPATIAL PARADIGM

Golovneva Elena Valentinovna
Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin in Ekaterinburg

Abstract. The article reveals a trend of considering the concept "region" from the standpoint of constructivism. It is shown that if the ideas of the "container" way of organizing space were inherent in the modernity type of culture, then updating of methodological approaches leads to formation of a new spatial paradigm. It is characterized by consolidation of a view on the region as a constructed phenomenon, "geoconcept", rethinking of the concept "border" associated with the region, characteristics of the region as an open structure and system of relations.
