Abstract. The article is devoted to the definition of a modern context for teaching foreign languages, which is characterized by multilingualism, conditioned by the changes that occurred in the past and is now taking place in Russia, Germany and other European countries. Particular attention is paid to the approaches of improvement of teaching foreign languages under conditions of the European multilingualism.
